Health & Hygiene Tips
Millions of micro-organisms occupy our homes and are able to survive on surfaces for long periods, multiplying at an incredible rate as they do so. Most of them are not harmful but some harmful ones called ‘germs’ can cause infections that can make you and your family ill.
People can be affected by germs in a numbers of ways. They can be breathed in or consumed, they can enter through a break in the skin via cuts and other wounds or enter through the eyes or nose.
About one in five people is more vulnerable to infection. Those who belong to one of the following groups need to be extra careful: people just home from hospital, the elderly, babies under one, children under five and pregnant women.
You can control the spread of germs by the way you clean your home and also by following basic hygiene rules, such as good hand washing. You need to focus your efforts on the times and places that matter most, such as the bathroom, kitchen, pet area or garden, and pay extra attention to frequently touched surfaces.
